Amy Carmody (Coghlan)

Student level

Yoga for me began in 2008 attending classes with my Father. I completed my first teacher training at 20 years of age and now a decade later I feel more passion, purpose and love for what I can offer.

I aim for my classes to be educational, heartfelt and an invitation to redefine what yoga might mean for you.

Teaching Style

  • Adjustments/Assists: If the verbal cue is not fully comprehended, then an intelligent & respectful assist when necessary.

  • Theming: Heartfelt, relatable and relevant discussion that may be thought provoking or simply a way for us to connect in oneness.

  • Sequencing: Everything I offer, in its specific order, has an intentional anatomical and sequential purpose. I aim for the movement sequence to have reason and room for growth and potential, smart yoga should be accessible for the beginner and the advanced student in the one room.

  • Music: Sacred Earth, Snatam Kuar, Electronic & Dance. I prefer music without english lyrics for a majority of the practice. Sometimes none. It differs, I am not a DJ so it's not my main priority, but you can never go wrong with the classics.

On & Off the Mat With: Amy Carmody (Coghlan)

As a yoga teacher, what inspires and motivates your teaching?

Knowledge, movement, sensations of joy & empowerment in my own body, and the unconditional love for my son, my greatest teacher.

How has your own yoga practice evolved since becoming a teacher?

I lot more self respect and motivation to move into love & joy, not insanely deep shapes that don't bring much purpose to my daily life.

Do you have any yoga teachers that you admire and/or look up to? Who are they?

Lisa Matthews, my beloved teacher.
Lara Heimann, Physical Therapist & Yoga teacher.
Matt Giordano.
Duncan Parviainen.

For those of us that haven't practiced with you before, what can we expect from your classes?

Hopefully to learn something each class, how to move and feel better both on and off the mat, inversions, CORE! and I love to share about my sweet boy or a story here and there.

I aim for my classes to be educational, heartfelt and an invitation to redefine what yoga might mean for you.

What type of class could you teach all day, everyday and why?

A class that sparks inquiry, fun, space and ignites my love of movement.

Do you practice any other form of movement or fitness besides yoga? If so, what kind?

Weight training and nature walks, which is enough for this ex dancer and crossfitter.

What's your go-to spot in Melbourne to get inspired?

A walk down the river or my own backyard to play and explore.

Which 3 icons or figures would you want to sit next to at a dinner party and why?

The world's funniest, the world's smartest and Leo Dicaprio.

Finish this sentence. "I feel the most like myself when..."

I am with my Fiancé and son or the dance floor with my girlfriends.

And lastly because it's fun, what animal do you identify with?

I've been told my eye contact is unwavering, so probably an owl.
